I am very sad for your family’s loss. I was his first House Officer at RLUH when he arrived as Professor of Orthopaedics in Liverpool. To say I was anxious was an understatement! It was my first job and his expectations were very high. In those 3 months I remember him as quiet, diligent, serious and a little stern. Some years later, in South Africa while attending an Orthopaedic conference with my husband , I saw Prof’s sociable side and his frequent smile. He was also one of the very few who wasn’t sea sick on the ‘Sea Princess’ on that memorable trip around the Cape of Good Hope! Over the years I looked forward to bumping into him at the Medical School Interviews and I last saw him there in 2018. He looked relaxed and happy and that was the last time I saw him. It’s wonderful a Foundation has been set up in his name. Maria Markides
