Ever since I met 'Prof' in 1998, he has been a source of inspiration, knowledge and guidance. I still remember the day I met him first in Liverpool and he said ''you better come and join my team next week instead of sitting on your backside and start doing some research'' and 22 years later I still believe that was the best advice I was ever given in my life.He provided opportunities for so many surgeons like me and helped shape our life and career. He rewarded hard work without any precondition or prejudice.

He always had a reassuring aura and provided solutions for any complex issue presented to him. Never minced his words and will always give it direct.

Over the years he had become a close friend and a mentor, giving advice and sharing wisdom, both professionally and in a lot of other matters including my health, finances, family and a lot of other things.I could ring him anytime of the day and he can be anywhere in the world, he will always answer with his usual charm and will shine a light on what I thought was the most difficult problem. And he will contact later to find out how it went, despite his massively busy schedule.He will be missed so much. He has left a huge vacuum. But his legacy will live on for ever.
