ICSS Australia 1998

My first contact with Professor was in 1996 when he performed my arthroscopic stabilisation. This was a new and innovative procedure at the time. The result has been tremendous and I still have a perfect shoulder almost 25 years later. A year or so later I became his first year registrar. I will never forget the day he called me into his office to tell me he wanted me to organise the MCh(Orth) exam. This was a daunting but also amazing experience for such a junior trainee. After this we did some research together into the biomechanics of arthroscopic slip knots. I got the opportunity to travel with him to the International Congress in Sydney in 1998 to present our work and it was wonderful to win the Best Scientific Poster Prize. I will never forget the celebratory dinner we had together in Darling Harbour with the rest of the team drinking vintage champagne. I was also another non-puking survivor of the Sea Princess in Cape Town 3 years later. Prof- you will always be my surgeon and great mentor and you will be sadly missed.
